DEL CONCA GRESINI MOTO3 TEAM WINTER EDITION 2017

The 2017 season might have been over for slightly over a month, but the Del Conca Gresini Moto3 team never really took a break since then. Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio have turned the page on last season to start focusing on 2018, a year that is going to be crucial for both riders – who now aim at the very top.

Jorge Martin has hung the leathers for a little while during the first few weeks of the off-season. The young Spaniard enjoyed a well-deserved holiday at Punta Cana together with multiple World Champion Jorge Lorenzo, but also spent some time in his native city of Madrid and in Andorra, where he followed an intensive training programme made of cycling – again in good company of some MotoGP stars – workout at the gym and cross-country skiing in the wonderful valleys near Andorra.

“I must admit these holidays were like manner from the sky: given the injury, this summer I was unable to basically do anything so I needed to switch off a little, even for just a week” said Jorge. “I put on 7kg (laughs) but I already lost half of them due to training.

I’m not pushing too much because we don’t want to geta head of ourselves, but we are definitely preparing 2018 the best way with cycling, skiing and gym: we are working especially on our stamina, in order to get a good base for January and then increase our workload. We will have to wait for February to get back on the bike, but we’ll be ready!”

Fabio Di Giannantonio, on the contrary, has basically never stopped riding motorcycles. Without leaving aside his training programme, the Italian took part in the Sic Supermoto Day in the early days of December and this weekend he lined up at Barcelona’s SuperPrestigio Dirt Track, where the #21 was third in his category.

“Superprestigio was a spectacular event and I’m really happy to have finished third. To be really honest I wasn’t expecting such a result, because I wasn’t quick either in practice or qualifying, but that’s kind of usual” said Diggia with his usual grin.

As the race came, however, I was very fast and I managed to end up practice among the fastest riders; I was third in my category but I also gained access to the finals. It was a great battle and got a bit of a beating with the Americans; I could have finished fourth but I’m happy this way. It was a great experience but also the best way to keep in shape and not lose the feel for riding.”

Now we can only wait until the winter season is over to see Jorge Martin an Fabio Di Giannantonio back on track from February 6th with the first test of 2018.
