Bastianini Back On Pole At Assen. Best Qualifying Of The Season For ‘Diggia’, 9Th

Gresini Racing Team Moto3 racer Enea Bastianini secured the pole position at the end of this afternoon’s Qualifying session of the Dutch Grand Prix at the historic TT Circuit Assen. Already on pole last year, the 18-year-old rider from Rimini repeated the performance this year, clinching his first pole position of the season thanks to a lap time of 1’42”463, set before the arrival of a few drops of rain that disturbed the final stages of the Qualifying session.

The excellent performance of the Gresini Racing Moto3 Team was completed by Fabio Di Giannantonio, who will start tomorrow from the third row of the grid with the ninth fastest time, 1’42”724. For the 17-year-old rookie from Rome this is the best qualifying performance of the season, improving the tenth place he had obtained last May 7 in the French GP Qualifying at Le Mans.

ENEA BASTIANINI (1st – 1’42”463)
“I’m very happy because this is the first pole position of the season, a further proof that we have grown and that now we are competitive. Both yesterday and this morning we struggled to find a set-up that would make the bike more stable, then we have succeeded: now I can be more effective in the fast sections of the track. It won’t be easy if it will rain tomorrow, because I’m not a specialist in the wet but if the track will be dry, I’m convinced that we can have a great race!”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (9th – 1’42”724)
“I’m very happy! I was feeling very comfortable on the bike, which worked really well, and moreover in my fast lap I was able to follow another rider who gave me a hand to set a good lap time. In the final stages of the session, when it started to fall a few drops of rain, I was still able to be fast in the T1 sector, but in other areas of the track it was raining a little more, so I preferred not to take too many risks. Every now and then I was looking at the big screens to see if I was losing positions, but it was difficult to improve and in fact no one was able to do it. For the race we will do some more adjustment to the front end to further improve corner entry, then we will give our best. We start from a good grid position and we can do well!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“Bastianini today made a good Qualifying session, making the most of the best moment to set the fastest lap: a performance that is also the result of the good work done by the team, because Enea this afternoon said he was happy with the behavior of his bike, proving that we had already made a good step forward, solving the problems encountered this morning. It’s always nice to start in front of everyone, now we can look forward to tomorrow’s race with great expectations. The day was positive for both riders, as Di Giannantonio got his best qualifying result of the season: Fabio was fast once again and starting from the third row on this track is undoubtedly positive for him. The trend is positive, it means that we are going in the right direction. I would like to thank the whole team, our partners and the riders for their efforts”.
