Gresini Racing Team Moto3 Riders Set To Kick Off The European Campaign At Jerez

After the challenging back to back races in Argentina and in the United States, the Gresini Racing Team Moto3 is preparing to kick off the long European season of the 2016 World Championship with the Spanish Grand Prix, scheduled for this weekend at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit.

Currently seventh in the standings with 21 points, in Andalusia the 18-year-old Gresini Racing Team Moto3 rider Enea Bastianini aims to get a good result to start to close the gap to the Championship leader Brad Binder. Along with his technical staff, Bastianini will work mainly to try to be faster in the early stages of the race, something that slowed him in this first part of the season.

After the excellent comeback put on display in Texas, Fabio Di Giannantonio aims to get even closer to his more experienced rivals on a track on which he has already accumulated kilometers during winter testing: 17th under the checkered flag at the Circuit of the Americas, in Spain the 17-year-old rookie will therefore attempt to collect his first World Championship points.

ENEA BASTIANINI
“Honestly Jerez has never been one of my favourite tracks: that said, of course we will do our best to do well, because we need to begin to recover points in the standings, as the gap from the first is already quite high. The tests performed on this track during the winter have been undoubtedly useful to understand several important aspects on the bike, but this weekend we will face different temperatures, so as always it will be important to quickly understand in which direction to work. We will focus above all to try to be stronger at the beginning of the race, which is where we are struggling the most at the moment”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO
“I’m very happy to finally arrive in Europe, on a track that I know and on which I have already carried out some days of testing! In Texas we missed very little to get into the points, so in Jerez our goal will be to try to get into the top 15. Certainly the work done during winter testing will help us to start the weekend with a good base: although in the last day available we made only a few laps due to a crash, during the tests carried out here at Jerez early in March I found myself at ease, so we start the weekend confident that we can do well”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“This year the Moto3 World Championship is very hard-fought and difficult and it’s vital to get points at every race in order to stay at the top: we expected to start the season in a better way and at this time the assessment cannot be considered positive, but we remain confident, aware that we have a great potential. We hope that the first race on the European soil can give us a hand to get a good result we need to recover positions in the standings. The goal with Enea is to try to get back on the podium, to take heavy points and regain confidence. Di Giannantonio rode a good race in Texas: we knew that the first three races would have been difficult for him, but he’s growing and he’s meeting our expectations. He needs time, but the return to Europe, on tracks that he already knows, will definitely help him to improve further”.
