MARTIN ON POLE AS ADVERSE TRACK CONDITIONS LEAD TO QP CANCELLATION

Team Del Conca Gresini’s Jorge Martin will start tomorrow’s 18-lap Moto3 race in Qatar from pole position, following the cancellation of all of Saturday’s on-track activities at the Losail International Circuit due to adverse track conditions.

With the starting grid based on the combined times of all three free practice sessions, Fabio Di Giannantonio will line up on the sixth row, sixteenth spot, while Martin’s 2’06.817s FP3 lap-time has given the Spaniard his maiden Moto3 pole position.

After an extensive evaluation of the track, the unseasonal torrential rain that has been falling on Qatar today has left Race Direction no choice but to call a stoppage to all activities.

The opening race of the 2017 Moto3 World Championship will get underway at 18:00 local time (GMT +3).

JORGE MARTIN #88

“I’m happy about the pole position, although I admit it was easy one to get! (laughs) We had in plan today to put the medium tyres on and set a good lap-time, but that turned out not to be necessary. We’ve done well in free practice with both tyre choices, so I can say we’re ready for the battle!”

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“There’s not much to say, really. We’re confident ahead of tomorrow and we can still try something more during the longer warm-up, but the bike was already OK so let’s wait and see what happens.”
