Sensational Double Top 5 Finish For Gresini Racing Team Moto3 In Wet Sachsenring Race

A very wet German Grand Prix today at the Sachsenring saw a stunning performance of the Gresini Racing Team Moto3, which brought both riders in the top five, with a determined Enea Bastianini on the third step of the podium and Fabio Di Giannantonio fifth at the finish line thanks to a beautiful comeback.

In conditions in which so far he had never shone Bastianini rode a flawless race, always remaining in the top five and taking the third place with a pass on John McPhee midway through the race. In the final stages, with less rain, the 18-year-old rider from Rimini opened a gap between him and the riders behind with some nice consecutive fast laps that allowed him to secure the podium finish behind Malaysian Pawi, winner of the race, and Andrea Locatelli, second.

The beautiful day of the Gresini Racing Team Moto3 was completed by Fabio Di Giannantonio, who produced a very determined performance: started from 22nd on the grid and already 16th after one lap, the 17-year-old rookie from Rome recovered position after position up to fifth place, position which then he defended with determination in the final lap from John McPhee attacks.

ENEA BASTIANINI (3rd)
“It’s been a very nice race, although definitely not easy! In the early laps I immediately found a good feeling with the bike and I enjoyed it, but then later, midway through the race, the rain intensified I started to struggle. The rear wheel was sliding a lot and I took several risks, almost at every lap! Then in the end there was less water on the track, and considering that some riders were pressing me behind my back and I wanted the podium at all costs, I decided to push harder: I found once again a good feeling doing some good laps which helped to maintain the third position with no worries. I’m satisfied because this is my first podium in the wet and it’s certainly a novelty, because in the rain I had never been so strong so far”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO (5th)
“At the start I recovered several positions, but honestly I didn’t realize how many: at the first lap I saw P16 on the pit board and I couldn’t believe it! Later I continued to recover lap after lap, finding myself in fifth place. At one point I even started believing in a podium finish, but some risks advised me to stay a little more calm… Moreover, in the final stages Enea in front of me started again to push hard, so at that point I just tried to maintain my position. McPhee passed me on the final lap, but I was determined to remain in fifth position, so on the penultimate corner I managed to get past him on the braking. I’m very happy because the weekend started in a bad way, with two crashes, but today we managed to react very well!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“Bastianini made a sensational race in the wet! In dry conditions it would have had a chance to win, but he really did a great job even with the rain and in treacherous conditions. Today, Enea showed great improvements in wet conditions, so far a weak point for him, and to be a more complete rider. Di Giannantonio had a great start and made a great comeback, always on the attack and picking up a beautiful fifth place, very close to the top. I’m delighted with today’s results today from both riders”.
