#FRENCHGP: LOWES HAS TO FIGHT FOR Q2 AFTER UPHILL START IN LE MANS

The French Grand Prix did not start off the best way for Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2as Sam Loweswas only 15thin the combined times of today’s two free practice sessions at Le Mans. This is quite a disappointment for the Briton, who is left out from direct access to Q2 and now has to hope for a dry FP3 session.

After a fourth place in FP1 – with his then-quickest lap-time given the non-improvement in the afternoon – a big step forward time-wise was expected in the afternoon, but a crash at turn 8 ruined the plans of the Faenza-based team.

Despite not improving in FP2 – and only nine laps completed in the session – Lowes is only sixth tenths away from today’s best time, but he still needs to find the right confidence and times on a track where he knows he can be quick.

15th– SAM LOWES #22

“First of all, I would like to apologise to my team because I made a mistake at turn eight and crashed. The bike was not too damaged, but we didn’t manage to get back to the track so that compromised the whole session. It’s frustrating because it was important to qualify to Q2 directly, especially if it’s going to rain tomorrow, but we need to keep working. We know we have a good race pace. In FP2 were working only with used tyres, but then the crashed changed everything. We still found something interesting, but we still have to qualify well tomorrow!”
