DI GIANNANTONIO FIFTH AS MARTIN IS FAR BACK ON DAY ONE AT BURIRAM

There was a lot of curiosity around the debut of the Moto3 World Championship at Buriram’s Chang International Circuit. Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 worked hard on the opening day of action at the Thai circuit to search for the best settings for Fabio Di Giannantonio and Jorge Martin at this brand-new track for the series.

With around 30 laps completed by each rider, it was the Italian the quickest of the two courtesy of a 1’43.556secs lap-time that gave him the fifth place. Di Giannantonio showed a good affinity with the track from the first laps already although there is still work to do to improve the rear-end grip.

Jorge Martin could not finish any higher than 21st as his quick-lap performance was affected by a faulty rear tyre. The Spaniard, however, was happy with how the day went. Moto3 proceedings will resume at 9am local time (GMT +7) for free practice 3, while qualifying will begin at 12:35.

5th– FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“Things went very well today! The track is amazing: from outside I thought of it more like a slightly more boring Spielberg, but the reality is that it’s an extremely good track. We still struggle on the straight, but today we started on the right foot. We’re still missing some rear-end grip, but it’s all about continuing to work the same way.”

21th– JORGE MARTIN #88

“A so-and-so first day for us: the feeling with the bike is good, although it’s clear there is something to improve. We mainly worked on our race pace and tried some settings that could help us on the longer run; when we went out for the quick lap, however, we had a faulty tyre that surely cost us a few tenths of a second. I like the track, but we need to improve tomorrow.”
