S#*T HAPPENS, SPRINT RACE EDITION

#SpanishGP. It was a nightmare sprint race for Marc and Alex Marquez. After an excellent start by both standard bearers of Team Gresini MotoGP, first Alex and then Marc crashed out at a point in the race where the double podium was almost a sure thing. With five laps left, in a matter of seconds both riders ended up in the gravel with only Marc able to re-join and still finish with some points.

The 93rd career pole position was not enough for the eight-time world champion, who will have another shot at gold tomorrow in the full-distance race, which has not been kind to him in the last outings. The Sunday encounter will be also a good opportunity for Alex to make amends from the second row and leave Jerez with a good taste in his mouth.

7th – MARC MARQUEZ #93

“When the job appeared to be done, I relaxed one second and ended up on a tiny wet patch. It wasn’t bigger than 20cm, but it was enough… We race as protagonists despite a so-and-so start, but we’ll have another chance tomorrow. It’ll all be different because the track will be fully dry and we will likely change the rear tyre option, but we’re on pole and we must aim at the podium.”

DNF – ALEX MARQUEZ #73

“The weekend so far has been extremely positive and with today’s start, we were ready for a great result. Too bad for that wet patch at turn five as three of us got tricked by it at the same time. We need to repeat the same start tomorrow and leave Jerez after a good performance.”
