ALCOBA NARROWLY MISSES ON FRONT ROW START, RODRIGO 7TH
#QatarGP Qualifying. A pleasant confirmation for Team Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 in the first decisive session of the season. Losail qualifying saw both Gresini riders in great form, with Jeremy Alcobaand Gabriel Rodrigo battling for pole position from the first flying lap.
In the end there was a little bit of regret got the two riders, who will line up fourth and seventh, respectively on the grid, after missing the last opportunity for pole: Alcoba experienced a little issue that forced his at the pit-box a bit too long, while Rodrigo was unable to cross the line on time (for a matter of milliseconds) before the end of the session, losing the chance for one last flying lap.
Nothing is lost, however, as both standard bearers of Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 will be among the protagonists of the first Grand Prix of 2021, getting underway at 17:00 local time (GMT +3).
4th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (2’04.437)
“I was feeling really good today and on the last flying lap I could have done even better. In the last split, with the fast corners I could have been quicker. Surely we went from last place in FP1 to fourth in qualifying, and since I’m not that good on the single lap I can say it’s not a bad result at all. We need to improve a few more tenths but we’re almost there.”
7th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (2.04.780)
“I didn’t push as hard as I could on the first lap as I didn’t wanna risk ending up on the green strip or worse… I could surely have done better. A pity to have crossed the line a tiny bit too late at the end. We have good information for the next qualifying, but we can be happy and tomorrow we’ll be with the leading pack.”
