The second MotoGP weekend at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia got off to a well-balanced start, with combined standings that were the best possible advertisement for motorcycle racing. Despite lapping with an outstanding pace, no less than nineteen riders were packed into a one-second gap. And, at the top of the standings, the gaps were reduced to thousandths of a second.
As Aleix Espargaró’s eleventh place illustrates. Encouraged by an excellent feeling with his Aprilia, Aleix did his best time in FP2 at 1’30.989, just 21 thousandths behind a top-10 spot and a tenth behind the top 5.
Lorenzo Savadori’s apprenticeship continues on this first day, aided by the cooperative weather. The Italian rider improved greatly between the two sessions, not only in terms of lap times, but also when it comes to his feeling with the RS-GP. He is still lacking a bit of confidence with a new tyre, so Lorenzo and his team will be focusing efforts on that tomorrow.
