THE APRILIAS DO WELL IN VALENCIA ON THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE

IN WET CONDITIONS BOTH ESPARGARÓ AND REDDING SHOWED THAT THEY CAN COMPETE FOR THE TOP TEN

The first day of practice in Valencia was held in conditions of constant rain and, with the track wet, both Aleix and Scott had good sensations that were rewarded with good times, especially in FP2 where they finished respectively fifth and eighth.

The times, higher for almost all the riders compared to FP1 in the morning, did not help the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini riders get into the top ten straight away (Aleix finished 11th with 1’40.967 and Scott 22nd with 1’42.857 in the combined total) but they still have FP3 on Saturday to chase a placement that will put them straight through to the Q2 session.

Moreover, the weather could hold a wet race in store with an uncertain forecast for the entire weekend. If this is the case, today’s references will be important for the race.

ALEIX ESPARGARO’

“Today I really felt good. Finishing FP1 close to the top 10 and fifth in FP2 is a great sign. The bike’s grip is very good and I was fast, confirming that we have made some steps forward from this point of view because the grip problems get worse in the wet. If the weekend should continue along these lines, we’ll be able to aim for important positions in the race.”

SCOTT REDDING

“The conditions today certainly weren’t easy. As soon as it starts raining harder, you start aquaplaning straight away. In any case, we have the potential to do well in the wet. This morning I struggled to find the right feeling, but in FP2, with a few changes, I was able to be fast. Now we’ll work to improve further, because I am confident in our chances in these conditions.”
