STUNNING DEBUT FOR DIGGIA AS HE HONOUR FAUSTO AFTER LOSAIL PODIUM

#QatarGP race. The new journey of Fabio Di Giannantonio in Moto2 with Team Federal Oil Gresini start like a dream, with the Italian scoring his first podium of 2021 that brings back the team founded by Fausto Gresini in the top three for the first time in the last four and a half years (the previous rostrum finish was by Lowes at Aragon in 2016).

A superb race for the #21 in his debut aboard the Federal Oil-liveried Kalex machine after wheeling his way out of the grid: he was good, however, in maintaining the position despite the unusual start. He then slipped all the way to eighth after a mistake in the early stages, but the following comeback was absolutely spectacular, with third place clinched at the photo finish for a matter of centimetres on Bezzecchi. Sixteen points and a lot of confidence after what has been a stellar start to the season.

Nicolò Bulega did not enjoy the same type of performance and result as his teammate as he struggled to find the race pace he had showed in the previous days. He rode in the back of the field despite a good start, likely due to a rear-tyre issue. The #11 rider will get a chance to make amends in less than a weekend at the same track in the #DohaGP.

3rd – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“I have no voice left as I have been screaming throughout the whole last lap. We had an extremely hard winter but that is not a mystery. But I know Fausto was with me today and I want to thank the whole team who did an incredible job. I raced with my heart, which was what our boss wanted and this is an incredible result. I never stopped believing during the race and at the last lap I made my move; I have never been so quick in Qatar and I’m very happy.”

22nd – NICOLÒ BULEGA #11

“Not much to say: we struggled from the beginning and unfortunately we were unable to find the right race pace with these conditions. We are analysing the data, but it is very likely that we experienced a rear-tyre issue. We need to keep our heads down and work hard as the calendar is giving us another shot at the same track. Next weekend will be different.”
