DISAPPOINTING DEBUT FOR TEAM FEDERAL OIL GRESINI MOTO2 AT LOSAIL
Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2’s 2020 season debut did not match the early expectations in Qatar. Edgar Pons and Nicolò Bulega, in fact, could not finish higher than 16thand 17th, respectively, at the end of the middleweight-class encounter at the Lotail International Circuit.
It was not a negative weekend for the Spaniard #57: Pons has shown that he can be part of the game at his debut with the Triumph-Powered Kalex machine, despite a poor start. His 16thposition at the flag, only 0.048secs away from the top 15, is surely a good base to work on from the following round in Texas.
Expectations were a bit higher for Nicolò Bulega, especially after the encouraging results of last week’s tests and the ninth place in the combined times of Friday. The Italian, who started the race from 15thplace on the grid, had some issues with a poor-performing tyre and a lack of acceleration.

“A difficult race… we made quite a significant mistake with the electronics at the start and at least 10 other riders passed me at turn one. I lost a lot of ground and did my best to recover… To be within the top 12 was absolutely within reach, as we lost everything at the start… Even telemetry showed that we were even slower, at the start, than a Moto3 bike. It will not happen again!”
18th– NICOLÒ BULEGA #11
“This surely isn’t the race we were looking for, but we knew it would have been hard. It has been an up-and-down weekend… In the race I had a lot of issues with the tyres, especially at the front-end of the bike. I was losing a bit under acceleration and in order to compensate I stressed my tyre more than I should have. Overall, there’s a lot to do in order to be in the right pace for the next races.”
