FERRARI NARROWLY MISSES ON PODIUM FINISH IN RACE ONE
From seventh place on the grid, Matteo Ferrari put together a great race one under the midday German sun: despite a red flag situation and quick restart, the Italian #11 made his way up to fourth place courtesy of a competitive race pace as he crossed the line very close to the podium. Alessio Finello rounds out the top ten as he also displayed a good pace, and a consistent one, which allowed him to take six more points home.
Everything changes in race two: as soon as the MotoE field lined up on the grid, ready for a dry race, the rain made it’s appearance. All riders returned to the pit-lane in order to change tyres. A new, wet race then gets underway: Ferrari struggles to get up to speed with the new conditions and finishes sixth, while Finello also had a difficult time as he lost a few places to cross the line fourteenth.
MATTEO FERRARI #11 (4th RACE1 – 6th RACE2)
“I’m very happy with race one, as we found a food base from which to start and to work on for the next races. This is a positive result that charged me up also for race two, which on the other hand turned out to be a disaster as I couldn’t find the feeling with the bike and finishes sixth. We need to work to fix the situation and be competitive also in the wet.”
ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (10th RACE1 – 14th RACE2)
“Overall it was a good weekend compared to last year as I had struggled a lot here at the Sachsenring. I’m very Happy with race one but it’s too bad that it lasted only five laps. We could have done better in race two as the potential was there, as we did some fine tuning on some details that had slowed me down in race one. Unfortunately it rained and I couldn’t find the confidence to push and finished fourteenth. I’m sorry because the weekend started off well and improved throughout the sessions so to finish it this way leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. We have a lot of margin for improvement in the wet and we have a lot of work to do.”
