Gresini Racing Team Moto3 Back On Home Soil As Mugello Beckons

Gresini Racing Team Moto3 riders Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio are preparing to face this weekend the first of the two home races on the calendar, the Italian Grand Prix at the fascinating Mugello circuit. The team prepared this important event with a day of testing at Misano last Monday, May 16.

The tests carried out on the Adriatic coast have proved very useful both for Enea Bastianini, who was able to check his physical condition aboard his Honda NSF250RW machine for the first time after breaking his right wrist during training last April 27, and for Fabio Di Giannantonio, who had the opportunity to complete several laps working hard on the set-up.

The first Free Practice will kick off Friday, May 20 at 9:00 am, while the 20-lap race is scheduled for Sunday, May 22 at 11.00 am.

ENEA BASTIANINI
“Two days ago at Misano it was nice to be back on my bike, although I struggled a bit to ride: I could have done more laps and be faster, but it would have been useless to strain the arm ahead of the race weekend. Therefore I just put in a few laps to regain confidence and to work on the riding position; now we look forward to Mugello, where first of all I will undergo the medical check on Thursday. Before taking to the track for the first practice I have still a few days to recover, so the situation can only improve compared to the test at Misano”.

FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO
“At Mugello I expect to be able to take another step forward, both in terms of riding both with regard to the work with the team. We race at home and this always gives a great charge and moreover Mugello is my favorite track, so there is everything to do well. In the last week I trained hard and we’re fresh from a very positive test day at Misano: I made a lot of laps and I gained even more feeling with the bike, so we feel ready and pumped to fight!”.

FAUSTO GRESINI
“Ahead of this important event the key point is still Bastianini’s physical condition. Two days ago Enea was back on track at Misano, where he was able to verify his feelings on the bike: things went not so bad, though obviously his arm is still hurting a bit, but it’s normal given that it’s never easy to ride for the first time after an injury. The road is steep, this is clear, but there is no other way, so we will face it with a positive attitude! Di Giannantonio has been training a lot in the last few days: in France he suffered a drop in his performance during the race and we discussed about it, so I hope that this will help him. We are helping him to grow and sometimes you have to be a little strict. I think that Mugello represents for him a good opportunity to take another step forward; Fabio in fact is very familiar with the track and the atmosphere of the home race will surely give him the right boost”.
