HOME TURF TIME FOR TEAM GRESINI RACING MOTOGP
#SanMarinoGP. The third-last European MotoGP World Championship event of the season is also the home round for Team Gresini Racing MotoGP, with Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio eager to do well at the iconic Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
Enea Bastianini is looking forward to bouncing back after the unlucky happening on Sunday in Austria after securing his maiden pole position the day before. Fabio Di Giannantonio is ready to aim consistently at the top ten.
Historic recurrences. Misano has been on the calendar since 2007: that year, Marco Melandri was the best-placed Italian rider at the chequered flag (he was fourth behind Stoner, Vermeulen and Hopkins), while the maiden podium at home for the team happened in 2012 courtesy of Alvaro Bautista.
Enea Bastianini is a true specialist of the Misano World Circuit: he has a win and a second place in Moto3 (in 2015 and 2016 with Gresini), a win in Moto2 in 2020 on his way to the world championship, and two podiums last year in his rookie MotoGP season. Fabio Di Giannantonio’s tally is a triumphant one, too: Moto3 podiums (2017 and 2018) and podium in Moto2 (2019). The rider #49 already showed he can make the difference on home turf this year (see Mugello).
ENEA BASTIANINI #23 (6th in the championship standings – 118 points)
“I’m not sure we’ll be able to battle for the win at Misano as so many riders are extremely fast at that track, especially the Italian ones. We will obviously try: it’s without a doubt one of my favourite tracks and I’m looking forward to leaving Spielberg’s disappointing Sunday behind.”
FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49 (20th in the championship standings – 23 points)
“Misano is Misano, a different and special weekend. It’s an incredible track and the home crowd support is fantastic. There will be many things happening, there will be a special helmet… generally speaking there will be a lot of positive energy in the air. We’re coming from a positive result in Austria and we have to continue this way, hopefully giving a good show to those who’ll come support us.”
