TURN SIX TURNS TRENTINO GRESINI’S RACE TWO INTO NIGHTMARE AT JEREZ

There’s no glory for Team Trentino Gresini Moto, who in the space of only four laps loses both their standard bearers – and ultimately come out empty-handed from the second Andalusian weekend.

Everything happens at turn six: the first one to leave the encounter is the debutant Alessandro Zaccone, who was on the receiving end of an exuberant overtaking manoeuvre by Tommaso Marcon that in fact eliminated him from the race. His already not-perfect physical conditions did not prevent him to qualify 14th and the top 10 was in his reach. The #61 leaves Jerez without any regrets and will not have enough time to recover and prepare the upcoming events.

Same spot but totally different story for Matteo Ferrari who in the first four laps was battling as usual at the front – after a good start. With two laps to go the recovery by Granado – his fiercest opponent for the title – and an overly ambitious attempt to overtake the rival have sent the current title holder in the gravel along with his Brazilian opponent. At the end of the race, race direction also inflicted a three-position penalty to Ferrari for the next race at Misano.

The #11 is currently sixth in the championship standings with 21 points to recover from Aegerter – with the series set to resume on home turf at Misano in one and a half months.

N.C. MATTEO FERRARI #11

“I’m really sorry, especially because we’re now far from the top. I tried so that I could make up some positions but unfortunately I hit a rider in front of me. I could have saved the crash without the collision, but things didn’t go this way. Now we need to keep our heads down, work hard and I’m sure we can still turn things around in this series.”

N.C. ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61

“Not much to say really, as I wasn’t able to complete even the first lap. I recovered two positions and the bike was working well, but then I was taken out… Two races and no laps is surely not the way I wanted my world championship journey to begin. I’m sorry especially for the team that worked so hard. Now we’ll try to make amends in Misano.”
