LOWES LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT FEELING DURING #SPANISHGP FREE PRACTICE
The Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team has completed the opening day of action for the Spanish Grand Prix 2019 edition at Jerez, after dominating pre-season testing at the same track. Things went in a different way today, however, as the new-spec Dunlop tyres have turned things around by almost resetting all the set-up work done through winter.
Sam Lowes could not finish any higher than 18thin the combined times of today’s two free practice session, despite being only one of the few riders able to improve their FP1 times in the afternoon. Heat and extremely high track temperatures (44°C) did not make the Briton’s life easy.
Lowes found a decent feeling towards the end of the day, and tomorrow he’ll try to gain direct access to Q2 – which is only a few thousandths of a second away – as Lowes is separated only by 0.7secs from the top of the timesheets.

“We are using bigger tyres now, new for everybody, so like 50% of the information from testing is lost. Anyway, it wasn’t a bad day; we finished ninth in the afternoon session and I feel that if we log a good lap-time in the morning we can be much closer to the front. I’ll look through the data because we need to find a better feeling on corner entry. I’m struggling in the second split and in turns 10, 11 and 12 and that’s strange, because normally those are very good points for me. I’ll look through the information available and we’ll find a way to be faster tomorrow”.
