Lowes Snatches Last-Gasp Pole In Rio Hondo Thriller

Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 racer Sam Lowes stole a last-minute pole position in a dramatic Qualifying session for the Argentina Grand Prix in Termas de Rio Hondo today. The 25-year-old British rider, who set a stunning 1’43”347, will share the front row tomorrow with Frenchman Johann Zarco and German Jonas Folger.

SAM LOWES (1st – 1’43”347)
“Today the team made a great job once again: the bike is always improving and it’s nice to count on a team able to give you bike that helps you making progress. In qualifying there was some traffic, but I knew I was fast and it would be only a matter of time; in the final stages in fact I managed to do a good lap and I’m happy for that. The track condition is not easy this weekend, but I feel good and relaxed on the bike. Like in Qatar we worked hard on the race pace: in the first Grand Prix I was able to maintain a good pace until the end and hopefully we can do the same tomorrow! The most important day is tomorrow of course, but it’s nice to be on pole! Grazie mille to the whole team!”

FAUSTO GRESINI
“Getting the first pole position of the year is very nice: it’s been still a difficult Qualifying session, because we got the fastest time only in the very last minute, but Sam really wanted it and he was really strong. This weekend we are facing very complicated track conditions, with little grip on the asphalt, so we worked hard for the race. We are very happy for the pole position, but now we are already focused on tomorrow’s race, which promises to be long and difficult. Thanks to Sam, to all the guys on the team and to our partners”.
