LOWSIDE AND SECOND PLACE FOR RODRIGO, ALCOBA LEARNS HIS WAY ROUND MISANO
A thrilling finale of FP2 saw Gabriel Rodrigo crashing out at Misano World Circuit’s turn 16 and taking out of action his opponent Baltus in the process. Both riders escape the crash unhurt, although the Argentine rider of Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 missed the last chance of the day to further improve.
The rider #2 ends his day only 0.234secs away from first place, and with Q2 almost sealed as he was only one of five who were able to break the 1’43secs barrier.
A steadier start for Jeremy Alcoba who made the most of today’s track-time to get to grips with the Misano track – where he never raced before. The Spanish rider was the most active on track with 33 laps across the two sessions and a best lap-time of 1’43.826secs that leave him half a second away from a possible Q2 direct seed. Moto3 action will resume tomorrow at 9am local time (GMT +2).
2nd – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’42.735)
“I would like to start by apologising for the crash that involved Baltus. It was a good lap and I could have improved my time from the morning, but unfortunately I lost the front and took him with me on the gravel trap in the process. In any case it was a positive day, we were second quickest and good feeling. The new asphalt has surely more grip, and when it’s like that you end up being more confident and may crash more.”
23rd – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’43.826)
“It’s all about continuing to lap as much as possible to get to know the track. I couldn’t expect to be near the front today, but we’re improving bit by bit. We need to work a lot with the bike and fortunately we’ll have two races, so we can make the most of this first weekend in order to be ready for Misano2. To be honest we’re not that far, I like the track but it’s a really technical one. We’ll keep our heads down and keep working.”
