SALAČ CLOSE TO POLE POSITION IN LUSAIL

Qualifying – #QatarGP Track condition changed in the second day of practice in Qatar: The strong wind brought plenty of sand on the Losail International Circuit, also reducing visibility in the process. This change did not have an impact on the Gresini Racing riders’ confidence, as both were able to better their lap-times.

Fourth-placed at the end of qualifying was Filip Salač, and only two tenths away from pole position: this is an excellent result for the Czech rider, considering it was his maiden qualifying session in the middleweight class of MotoGP. Despite the not-ideal track conditions, the rider #12 managed to set his so-far personal quickest time already on lap number two, and then keeping a great pace throughout the session – something that bodes well ahead of tomorrow.

Alessandro Zaccone also improved: following a difficult morning, he finally managed to improve his feeling under braking. This step forward allowed him to log his personal best time – narrowing the gap to the top down to 1.586 seconds. The goal of the #61 is to make another step forward set-up wise during warm up, in order to be ready for the opening encounter of his Moto2 career.

P4 – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’59.287)

“Qualifying went really well: I managed to set a great time early on and then to keep a good and consistent pace throughout the session. It’s incredible to be fourth at the end of my first-ever Moto2 qualifying, but the race is tomorrow however, and things will be different. Tomorrow’s goal is to bring home the first points: the bike is perfect, the team is working extremely well so let’s try and score a good result tomorrow as well.”

P25 – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (2’00.957)

“We’re trying many things to find the right direction and finally we managed to make a step forward. We will keep working in order to try something more during warm up tomorrow, and then let’s see what happens. My first-ever qualifying in the Moto2 World Championship was surely an incredible experience, and we’re confident heading into race day!”
