SEASON FINALE: THANK YOU ALL!
The final race of the season was an emotion filled encounter, as Alcoba and Salač tackled their last outing aboard the Gresini’s light-blue machines. The Spanish rider #52 put together a good comeback from twenty-third place on the grid as he crossed the line fifteenth for one last point given to the Faenza-based squad.
Filip Salač, on the other hand, had an unfortunate start to the race as he had to avoid a rider who crashed in front of him, an incident that cost him a lot of positions (he crossed the line in 28th place at the end of lap one). The Czech rider managed to recover several position courtesy of a fast and consistent pace (low 1’34s) and eventually finished seventeenth.
Matteo Ferrari’s wildcard appearance was wrapped up by a solid performance in the race: the Rimini-born rider started the encounter from twenty-fourth place on the grid and, overtake after overtake, he managed to secure a nineteenth-place finish. It was a very positive performance for Ferrari in his Moto2 World Championship debut.
Time has come to wave goodbye to Jeremy and Filip: thank you guys and all the best for the future!
15th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (18th in the standings with 48.5 points)
“This was the last race with the team, on the grid with Ivano, my crew chief, and I was already in tears. It was a very emotional race, I gave everything I had, I push so hard that I got back to the pits with such sore legs! I’m so happy, our pace was incredible and so consistent – only two tenths slower than qualifying. We bring home one last point, which is important for both myself and the team: I’m really happy.”
17th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (11th in the championship standings with 110 points)
“We were unlucky, as there was a crash on lap one and I had to run off track to avoid any incident, and lost so many positions. I’m very happy with the race pace, which was consistently fast, I did all I could and I think we did a good job. I would like to thank the team for these two years together, they have been incredible, we made some special memories that I will always carry with me. Thank you!”
19th – MATTEO FERRARI #44
“I’m very happy with the weekend, we gave it all: we managed to do no damage (lol) and despite the lack of experience with these tyres, we managed to improve in each session. The race today was tough especially with full tank, but we managed it well. It took me a little to find the right confidence to overtake but we hit the top-20 target we had, but we still miss something for a top-15 result. We gathered plenty of information and did the best we could. I’d like to thank Gresini Racing for this opportunity, the mechanics, my sponsors and my friends who came here to support me!”
