SIXTH PLACE FOR ARENAS IN HIS HOME GP

Albert Arenas lined up on the #CatalanGP grid eager to do well in front of his home crowd – despite all the pressure that comes with it. From the fifth slot, he immediately moved up to third as the race got underway. He was well within the podium battle in the first half of the encounter but then he could not stay with the leaders. He still gave it all and crossed then line in sixth place, bringing home 10 important points for the championship standings – which see him currently seventh.

Manuel Gonzalez did not live up to the expectations he set for himself at this event: from ninth place on the grid, he found himself stuck in the big group of riders and lost a few positions. He then started his comeback but was perhaps a bit too eager and ended up crashing. He still managed to re-join the encounter and showed a brilliant place, which likely could have put him in podium contention.

The second of two back-to-back events will begin in a few days’ time at Mugello, where the standards bearers of team QJMOTOR GRESINI Moto2 will try to aim high in the team’s home round.

6th – ALBERT ARENAS #75

“Today we did all we could, really: it was my home race and we wanted the podium. I managed to get off to a perfect start – just as I planned to do – and put myself in the podium battle with the leaders. Still we finished sixth, which is a sign that we still need plenty of work to do: we have the speed as we showed in qualifying but we need to be more effective in the race. We need to put in some great effort, both me and the team, but also stay focused and understand what didn’t work here and which adjustments can allow us to be more competitive in the upcoming races.”

23rd – MANUEL GONZALEZ #18

“Today we had a great bike that could have allowed us to finish the race in the top positions, but I made a mistake and crashed. I wasn’t very lucky with overtakes today, I was pushed off track and lost several positions. I’d like to apologise to the team because today’s potential was really high: now we need to put the pieces together and keep the heads on our shoulders. Mugello is around the corners!”
