SPIELBERG ROUND 2: PROVISIONAL Q2 DIRECT SEED FOR RODRIGO AND ALCOBA
The #AustrianGP has surely started in a better way than last weekend with Team Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 currently inside the ‘Q2 lot’ after today’s free practice session. The changeable weather only partially affected proceedings today, with the most usual summer storm to take the last 20 minutes of afternoon action away from riders. But Gabriel Rodrigo and Jeremy Alcoba were quick from the get-go as they both broke the 1’37secs barrier.
The Argentine side of the box seems to be the happier of the two, with Rodrigo looking for a competitive time attack but already well performing on the longer run; Alcoba was not as content as he has been struggling at this track – albeit less today compared to the #StyrianGP.
Moto3 proceedings will resume tomorrow morning at 9:00 local time (GMT +2) for FP3. In case of a rainy morning, their Q2 admission will be a sure thing – as the qualifying sessions will begin at 13:00.
12th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2 (1’36.679)
“We’re in kind of the same situation as last weekend: good feeling but sub-par positioning, especially considering our potential. Today I could get a lap done with the right slipstream, and this is what makes the difference. With a four-tenth gap you find yourself twelfth… Our race pace in the afternoon – with used tyres – was really quick, so we’re positive ahead of Saturday.”
14th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’36.897)
“Position-wise, it was a good Friday, but not so much in terms of riding. We left last weekend with a good feeling on the dry and today things didn’t go the same way. We’re in Q2 right now, so we’re taking the positive side of it, but we surely need to work and improve in order to be competitive this Sunday. I need to find out, together with the team, what is going on, so we’ll spend the afternoon analysing the data.”
