SLIM TITLE DEFENCE HOPES FOR MATTEO FERRARI

Anything that could happen happened in the second day of action at Le Mans, but unfortunately the penultimate race of the season did not bring good news for a possible world cup title defence for Matteo Ferrari and Team Trentino Gresini MotoE. The preconditions for a good performance were all there: a great qualifying saw Ferrari clinching the second spot on the grid and a first blistering start launched the #11 rider at the front of the field.

Then the red flag came after Casadei’s crash, which led to a new start. Despite another perfect start, Ferrari lost the rear of his Energica Ego Corsa at the exit of turn three and was forced to an early retirement.

Good performance for Alessandro Zaccone, who also was not lucky at the start as he found himself behind the incident triggered by Simeon, but he made a good comeback and finished in the top ten. Tomorrow there is the last chance to do well, with the #61 who will start in third row, while Ferrari all the way down in 15th with an almost impossible mission: recover 18 points from today’s winner and poleman Torres.

DNF – MATTEO FERRARI #11

“It wasn’t the best Saturday of my life, but we’re still second and it’s a position we must defend. I’m very sorry because we were doing really well, we had two great starts, but then a cold tyre got in the way. I could have battled for the win easily, tomorrow I will race to defend second place, but then you never know in MotoE.”

9th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61

“Not much to say, it was hard to be quick in such short race. In qualifying I wasn’t able to shine, even though I was able to match yesterday’s time. But then the crash ahead of me slowed me down immediately. I was able to recover and even passed a couple of riders. We will in a much better grid positions tomorrow, so we’ll try even better.”
