TRENTINO: THE OPEN-AIR GYM OF TEAM GRESINI MOTOE

It has been without at doubt a turbulent start to the new FIM MotoE World Cup due to the well-known accident in Jerez. The delayed start to the first-edition of the series powered by the Energica motorcycle has allowed Team Trentino Gresini to extend their preparation time ahead of the six races on the revised calendar of the championship – which will be contested during four MotoGP events.

Lorenzo Savadori and Matteo Ferrari made the most of this period of time. Despite being involved in other championships (CIV and CEV, respectively), which is something crucial to keep the right feeling for racing, they chose Regione Trentino for training and much more.

As it often happens with two-wheeled sportsmen, the main activity was obviously cycling, and what better place to do so and keep fit: off-road sections for pros and paths blessed by break-taking views were the background for some experience-filled training.

Sorrounded by green everywhere and near the crystal-clear waters of Garda lake, Ferrari and Savadori did not back down from trying their skills between extreme and relaxing sports – which are very popular and connected with Trentino. From swinging – or at least attempting to do so – around the golf courses to challenging themselves in a windward-gate regatta thanks to the constant winds of Italy’s biggest lake.

No sporting activity is probably better to training body and mind than climbing, a must do on the endless rocky paths present in the region, which Matteo and Lorenzo – who are used to very different type of adrenaline – managed to make the most of.

Good training requires a good diet, and this is something that our brave riders could take advantage of. But this weekend – at the Sachsenring circuit in Germany – it is time to make the debut in the newly-born FIM MotoE World Cup, which starts on Friday morning with the first free practice session.

MATTEO FERRARI #11

“I must say that MotoE and Trentino managed to give me some great feelings and excellent “first-times”. Not only I will be starting the first-ever edition of the all-electric World Cup with Team Gresini, but during the off season I was able to test myself with sport climbing (and it was not easy) in Trentino, my first windward-gate regatta on the lake of Garda and my first swing – which to everyone’s surprise was perfect! We also cycled a lot and had some great dinners, with the goal of preparing this season at our best – and now it’s finally time to begin.”

LORENZO SAVADORI #32

“It was a unique experience, from training in wonderful places to the many people we meet, who are so tightly connected to this land – and how can we blame them!? We were always around mountains and in the greenest of greens, and with Matteo we did everything, from sailing to climbing, without leaving the two wheels behind: we cycled everywhere and also did some motorcycle riding around between castles and breath-taking landscapes. We trained the body but also the mind, and now we’re ready for the start of this championship!”
