A RACE TWO OF ONE HALF: FERRARI FOURTH, FINELLO 12th
Race2 – #DutchGP The final race of the weekend for the MotoE class at the TT Circuit Assen was an eventful one to say the least, with plenty of drama in what turned out to be quite the shortened race for team FELO Gresini Racing MotoE.
With the race start procedure being carried out thrice, a red flag and a crash that cut the race (and points) in half, Matteo Ferrari was able to finish fourth, while Alessio Finello ended up twelfth.
This ‘sprint’ race two leaves a bitter taste in the riders’ mouth, especially for Ferrari who otherwise may have aimed at the podium. Finello scores important points as a further proof of the constant growth of the Italian rookie, who will be aiming for more in Austria after the summer break.
4th – MATTEO FERRARI #11 (3rd in the championship standings – 112,5 points)
“It never happened to me to have a three-lap race: the bike was working well and we made a further step forward. Seeing the light rain, I wanted to take it easy in the early laps and then battle hard in in the final laps, but then the race was stopped. I’m really sorry about it because we didn’t get the results we deserved this weekend – we were strong. We’re taking home two important places for the championship, but now we need that bit more of luck to recover a bit of points in Austria! I would like to thank the team and all sponsors.”
12th – ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (18th in the championship standings – 9 points)
“Today was a really challenging day, from the grid procedure – it was really important to choose the right tyre, as the weather kept changing. Then a three-lap race: we could have aimed at the top ten if it lasted longer. We still finished 12th, which is currently our best result of the season and that is proof that we made a step forward and we’re improving. Now the summer break: see you in Austria, where I’ll be charged up to resume the work and improve some more.”
