COMPLICATED FRIDAY AT SPIELBERG FOR BULEGA AND PONS

The first day of action at Spielberg was surely not one to remember for  Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 who finished Friday in the lower part of the combined timesheets with Nicolò Bulega 19th and Edgar Pons down in 27th place.

Many laps (31 each) and a lot of work on track for the two standard bearers of team Gresini in the intermediate class, with the duo looking forward to improving tomorrow while hoping for a dry FP3 session. Only a few tenths were needed by Nicolò Bulega to be closer to the front and just 227 thousandths of a second to be in the group of people with direct seed to Q2.

A bit more complicated the situation of Edgar Pons who did scrape off eight tenths between the two sessions, albeit still finishing 1.5 seconds from the top. The Spanish rider will have to work on his feeling with the bike, which is far from ideal.

19th – NICOLÒ BULEGA (1’29.745)

“We’re not too far from the leaders in terms of lap-times, although seven tenths in Moto2 and on such a short track is too much. We really need to find a solution ahead of tomorrow: qualifying well will be crucial in order to have a good race.”

27th – EDGAR PONS (1’30.489)

“A difficult first day. Finding the right feeling with the bike is costing us more than expected. There’s a lot of work to do and we need to be mentally strong because these positions don’t help us grow. I hope for another dry day that can allow us to try some different settings and improve little by little from a situation that none of us is enhoying.”
