ZACCONE IN PROVISIONAL Q2 SEED
Free Practice – #PortugueseGP The European season of Moto2 has kicked off at the Algarve International Circuit today, with torrential rain allowing the standard bearers of team Gresini Racing Moto2 to complete only a very limited number of laps in the first free practice session – with Zaccone finishing second. Challenging conditions continued to be present in the second session too, in which both riders were able to improve ahead of qualifying.
Alessandro Zaccone was eventually fourteenth at the end of the day, and therefore clinching a provisional direct seed to Q2 as he showed great feeling with wet conditions.
Filip Salač did not stay out on track long due to track conditions in FP1 but was able to improve on his personal best lap-time in the following session, before it was cancelled by race direction due to a yellow flag situation. He is currently out of Q2 for only 97 thousandths of a second.

“I’m happy with this opening day, we did well. I’m only sorry for the fact that I got back to the pits towards the end thinking I had time to put the harder tyre on – as the track was drying up – but it was just a little to late to do it and get back on the track in time to have another quick-lap attempt. I had to stay in the pits and lost the opportunity to further improve on my lap-time in the last three minutes, a moment in which I knew I could have pushed harder. Despite that, we’re still provisionally in Q2 and I’m really happy about it.”
16th – FILIP SALAČ #12 (2’03.167)
“It was quite a difficult day with plenty of rain, but in the end I can say I’m still happy with the result and the feeling with my bike. At the beginning I was quite scared by the tricky conditions of the track, but towards the end of FP2 I was still able to set a good lap-time, which was then cancelled due to a yellow flag situation. We know we can repeat it tomorrow, though. We’re motivated to do well ahead of qualifying and we’ll be ready whether it’ll be dry or wet out there.”
