BASTIANINI ON TOP FORM ON DAY ONE AT JEREZ
#SpanishGP free practice. Team Gresini MotoGP has started the racing weekend at Jerez de la Frontera on the right foot as the opening day of action draws to a close with Enea Bastianini’s second position in today’s free practice – a performance that bodes very well for a possible direct seed to tomorrow’s Q2. It was not a result that could be given for granted, as yesterday’s torrential rain had surely made track conditions worse than expected, but also because the rider #23 is still dealing with some pain in his right wrist after last week’s crash in Portugal.
Good news came also from the other side of the pit-box as Fabio Di Giannantonio – despite finishing 21st – has set his quickest-time ever around the Andalusian track. There is still plenty of work to do for the Italian and his crew in order to find the best feeling, but the direction taken looks promising.
2nd – ENEA BASTIANINI #23 (1’37.272s)
“The feeling is surely great on the time attack, while we still have to improve race-pace wise. We made some set-up modifications and I liked them all, so we’re surely on the right path. I must say that the track was not in the best of conditions as there was still water coming up at turn five, and especially at turns two and eight.”
21st – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49 (1’38.313s)
“We’re trying to figure out how to improve compared to previous racing, especially with regards to the feedback with my bike. It wasn’t a bad day overall even if we’re still far from the top because I was able to set my fastest time ever here at Jerez. We’re improving little by little and we’re keeping our heads down. There’s still work to do.”
