LOWES LOOKING TO MAKE AMENDS AT AUSTIN

Sam Lowes is about to return to the stage of his first-ever Moto2 World Championship race win. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas will host the third event of 2019 for the middleweight class of MotoGP, with the experienced British rider eager to make amends after the difficult race at Termas de Rio Hondo, which ended up prematurely due to a low side.

The standard bearer of Team Federal Oil Gresini has always qualified on the front row in the last three editions of the American Grand Prix he contested as Moto2 rider – second in 2015 and 2018, third in 2016 – while winning the race in 2015 and finishing second the following year – when he was racing with the Faenza-based squad.

Moto2 action will begin on Friday with the first two free practice session, which will get underway at 10:55 and 15:10 local time (GMT -5), with qualifying scheduled on Saturday at 15:05 and race the following day from 12:20.

SAM LOWES #22

“I’m really looking forward to Austin: I have great memories of that track, and funnily enough it’s not among my favourites. I won my first Moto2 race there. Obviously Argentina didn’t end up well, but we were quick. We were also quick in Qatar and in Jerez, so I see no reason why we wouldn’t be quick in Austin. This is a track I really like, so the goal is to get a good amount of points in order to get to Europe in the best possible condition. I’m having fun on the bike and I’m working well with a great team, so I’m counting down the days.”
