ALCOBA TWELFTH AS RUEDA NARROWLY MISSES ON Q2 ADMISSION
#ValenciaGP qualifying. The sun shines again on the Ricardo Tormo Circuit for the final qualifying day of the 2021 season. Team Indonesian Racing Gresini Moto3 was back on track in the morning with both riders enjoying some good feeling aboard their Honda machines: Jeremy Alcoba was also able to secure a precious last spot for the direct admission to Q2 thanks to a 14th place in the combined times.
Things did not go as good in Q2, though, at least not in the last time attack. Alcoba goes from fourth to twelfth at the chequered flag as he did not manage to improve in his final quick-lap attempt.
Rookie Jose Antonio Rueda put together an impressive performance as he went very close from finishing in the top four, as he was pipped by a couple of riders. He will start tomorrow’s race from row seven, but he has the pace to recover some positions and who knows, maybe to also aim at the top 15.
12th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52 (1’39.370)
“I’m not very happy… Set-up wise we’re in a good place but not 100%. Unfortunately, I cannot give my best in qualifying without slipstreams so we depend on our opponents. It will be a difficult race tomorrow, we’re a little behind and a comeback will be hard to put together. I would like to wrap up the season with a good result, and to be honest I wanted to do it today already with a good qualifying performance.”
21st – JOSE ANTONIO RUEDA #95 (1’39.617)
“I’m not fully happy. We had the potential to do something better and we almost managed to do it. We missed Q2 at the very last minute: I was fourth at the finish line, but unfortunately two riders who were behind me managed to push me out of the top four. We’re ready for the race though, we know what tyres we’ll use, and we know we can do well at this track.”
