ALEX CONFIRMS Q2 STATUS, DIGGIA STOPPED BY RED FLAG

In a parallel universe, Team Gresini MotoGP’s Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio are resting after FP2 with the eight and tenth quickest times and the direct admission to Q2 granted.

Unfortunately, Espargaró’s crash in the fourth sector and the subsequent yellow flag have deprived the Rome-born rider of his well-deserved time, and he was eventually only 19th at the chequered flag. This stroke of bad luck did not take anything else away from the good performance by Fabio Di Giannantonio, who will be among the favourites to make it through Q1.

For Alex Marquez the Q2 was never a given but has become a certainty in this season. He will likely have a shot at a place on the first two rows at Misano.

8th – ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (1’31.247)

“Things went quite good. We improved consistently in a Friday that was definitely different from Montmeló, where we made some mistakes. We didn’t have a great feeling with the medium tyre, but things went better with the softer option. We surely have to do something in the first split where we lose a lot, but we know where to work on.”

19th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #49 (1’31.821)

“It was an up-and-down day: we worked hard to secure what would have been a key Q2 access. The pace is very good and it’s a shame that they took away that lap due to the yellow flag that I hadn’t seen. If there won’t be positive decisions coming from race direction, we’ll give it another try in Q1.”
