#AMERICASGP: FRIDAY TOP-5 FOR LOWES AT AUSTIN

Sam Lowes’s start to the American Grand Prix was in line with his talent and expectations as the Briton started with the right foot at Austin. The former World Champion was fifth in the combined times of today’s two free practice sessions in what was a sunny day in Texas.

This top-five results could be especially important as the good weather could be replaced by rain in tomorrow’s Free Practice 3 – and potentially affecting the battle for Q2. The rider of Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2, who was among the leading five riders in both sessions, finished his Friday with a 2’10.646secs, slightly more than six tenths of a second from Schrotter’s provisional pole, although just a bunch of milliseconds from the front row.

There will be more time to do some fine tuning in FP3 – weather permitting – to search for some extra rear-end grip ahead of qualifying (Q2 starts at 15:30).

5th– SAM LOWES #22

“It was really a positive day. Austin is a track that changes every year and therefore needs a different set-up. That’s why I struggled in the first session, but I’m happy with this first day. We kind of miss something on the quick-lap and that’s why we need to find some more rear-end grip and some different geometry, but we’re in a good position race-pace wise. Tomorrow should be raining but it’s expected to be sunny on Sunday. We worked hard for the race and things went well!”
