BULEGA IN Q2 ZONE AT EUROPEANGP AS DAY ONE DRAWS TO A CLOSE

Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 had a competitive start to the third-last event of the season at Valencia, with Nicolò Bulega and Edgar Pons already on good form at the Spanish venue. The Italian, in particular, well performed today as he clinched 13th place courtesy of a 1’47.359 which grants him – for now – a direct seed to Q2.

There is obviously still Free Practice 3 to take place, and the key factor will be tomorrow morning’s weather, which may – in the worst-case scenario – prevent Pons from having one more chance to avoid Q1. The Spanish rider was only a few thousandths of a second away from his current teammate in sixteenth place.

FP3 for the EuropeanGP will get underway tomorrow morning at 11:15 local (GMT +1) at Cheste.

13th – NICOLÒ BULEGA (1’47.359)

“I’m happy to be currently in Q2 and the rain expected for tomorrow should seal the deal and give us a good opportunity for qualifying. Obviously we still need to improve, but we’re not in a bad place and surely we’re a lot more competitive than in Aragon.”

16th– EDGAR PONS (1’37.533)

“It was a complicated start this morning with such a slippery track. In the afternoon things improved but not enough. In any case, we’re only few tenths away from the quicker riders, and if it doesn’t rain tomorrow we might have a good chance to make it to Q2, even though I wouldn’t bet on the weather right now. In any case, we’re confident we can have a good weekend, even though there are three-four things still to fine tune.”
