POSITIVE TEST IN PORTIMAO CLOSES THE GRESINI MOTO2 TEAM PRE-SEASON

Autodromo International do Algarve, 21st February 2022. After two tests in the Spanish circuit, we move to Portugal, in Portimao, for the last official test before the start of the season. Three days of testing, with three sessions of 70 minutes each: fundamental for the Gresini Racing riders who are both facing this track for the first time with a Moto2.

Positive tests for Filip Salač after a difficult first day where he struggled to trust the front due to the huge crash he had in Jerez. He gained his confidence back already on day2, and that leads the rider with the number 12 to take a good step forward, improving both the time and the feeling with the bike.

Three complicated days instead for Alessandro Zaccone, who struggled to find the right direction. The team preferred to concentrate just on the set-up of the bike to give the #61 rider the opportunity to readjust his riding-style to a Moto2, that has very different characteristics compared to the motorbikes he had ridden in the past here in Portimao.

FILIP SALAČ #12 (best lap 1’43.023 – 137 total laps)

“The first day was difficult, I was having a hard time trusting the front, probably influenced by the crash in Jerez. The second day, on the other hand, was much better, I found the feeling again and from the second session I started enjoying it! We have really made a great step forward, in terms of time but also from the point of view of the set-up of the bike. Today we put the soft tire to try the time-attack but I crashed so we didn’t manage to set a good lap-time, but I’m satisfied, I feel strong with this bike. The team has worked really hard, they are fantastic and together we have found a really good set-up with which to start working in Qatar. I can not wait!!”

ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (best lap 1’43.493 – 154 total laps)

“In these tests we really struggled a lot in general, to find an optimal set-up of the bike, and in terms of feeling with the bike on this track. For this reason, on the second day we decided not to use the soft tire for the time attack, and instead to work on the bike from a technical point of view, to try to find the  right automatisms of this category. I want to thank the team, when things get difficult it is never easy to work. But now let’s  focus on Qatar: I’ve never been there so I’m really curious to discover the track and to give my best to start this adventure in the best possible way!”
