ZACCONE CRASHES IN MANDALIKA QUALIFYING, SALAČ TWENTY-THIRD
Qualifying – #IndonesianGP The second day of action at Mandalika saw once again tricky conditions for the riders, who had no choice but to get out on track with rain tyres during the morning session. This also meant that both standard bearers of team Gresini Racing Moto2 could not improve their lap-times from day one and therefore all the chances to make it into Q2 from the main door had faded away before even taking to the track for FP3.
Q1 was held with at least a dry main line, with Filip Salač 23rd at the chequered flag with a time of 1’37.218 and out of Q2 for only 0.336secs. The rider #12 was still happy with his lap, which was one and a half seconds quicker than the one set yesterday; this is a positive sign ahead of tomorrow’s race.
Qualifying did not last long for Alessandro Zaccone due to a crash at turn during the early moments of the session. A pity for the #61 rider, whose dashboard displayed -0.318secs before the tumble. He will line up on 29th place on the grid tomorrow, ready for a comeback.
23rd – FILIP SALAČ #12 (1’37.218)
“I’m happy and disappointed at the same time: clearly the result was not what I wanted, but on the other hand we recovered the feeling with the bike – so much that I was able to take 1.6secs off my best-lap. If we consider that I lost FP2 due to a crash, I can say the result was not too bad. Let’s have fun tomorrow and see what happens!”
29th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61 (1’38.609)
“I’m really sorry for my crash so soon into the session, because the bike was and felt a lot better, up to the point that on my first lap I was able to repeat yesterday’s best time with ease. We could have had a good result, but unfortunately, I ran slightly off-line and as soon as I touched the wet part, I crashed. Luckily I’m good: I will have to recover the feeling with the bike tomorrow, but I’m sure we can put together a good comeback.”
