COTA: BULEGA UNFIT, DIGGIA BACK ON FRONT ROW

#AmericasGP qualifying. Team Gresini is down one more standard bearer – after the DNS of Rodrigo in Moto3 and Viñales in MotoGP – as Nicolò Bulega officially withdraws from the Grand Prix of the Americas. The rider #11 has been declared unfit to ride following a crash during FP3 at turn six, from which he escaped with a big leg bruise.

Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2, on the other hand, saw an incredible bounce back by Fabio Di Giannantonio, who after a sub-par opening day he was then third both in Free Practice 3 and qualifying. With Q2 affected by several yellow flag situations, the rider #21 did well – and was also a little lucky – in setting his best lap-time in the opening moments of the session.

This is Fabio Di Giannantonio’s third front row start of the season (his sixth in Moto2) after the ones claimed in Jerez and Sachsenring. The race will get underway at 12:20 local time (GMT -5).

3rd – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21

“I’m really happy: it took us quite the journey to be back near the top. We had struggled in the last four races and even if it’s true we still lack something, the team has worked incredibly well this weekend and I’m getting back the type of feeling on the bike I was looking for. We’re still not 100%, but I can’t wait to race tomorrow and keep getting better.”

UNFIT – NICOLÒ BULEGA #11

“I crashed quite heavily at turn six and unfortunately the bike hit me. I got a big bruise in my leg and unfortunately, I won’t be able to race tomorrow. We will do some more extensive checks and try to get better for my next home GP.”
