DIFFICULT QUALIFYING FOR FERRARI, NINTH AT SACHSENRING
It was a bittersweet Friday for Team MotoE FELO Gresini Racing with Matteo Ferrari wrapping up the combined FP practice on top of the timesheets with a 1’27.205. Then the rain made proceedings a bit more challenging for the #11, who will line up only in ninth place of the grid tomorrow as he prepares for two comeback races.
Alessio Finello had a complicated Friday, as he got to grips for the first time with the Sachsenring. The Turin-born rider’s day was made even more challenging by the weather conditions, which prevented him from learning the right lines. With a time of 1’39.217secs set in Q1 with wet track, he qualified in 17th place. He will try to improve lap after lap with the goal to bag some points tomorrow.
9th – MATTEO FERRARI #11 (1’37.410)
“It was a positive Friday free-practice-wise, especially in FP2 on the dry as we could improve our pace. We still need to do some fine-tuning but with dry conditions the feeling is very good. Q2 was very strange: the track wasn’t very wet, it was drying up, but still I wasn’t able to recover the same good feeling I had in the wet at Mugello. We’ll work hard to understand how to improve in this area, as I’m sure we gathered some important information. Too bad for the first row, quite ‘uncomfortable’ for the two races: we still need to stay focused and bring home the best possible result. I hope the two races will be dry tomorrow, but I’m sure we’ll find a solution should we instead race in wet conditions.”
17th – ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (1’39.217)
“It was a complicated day: the Sachsenring is a new circuit for me, and it wasn’t easy to ride for the first time here with mixed/wet conditions. We’re not losing hope, however: this weekend started on the wrong foot, but there are two races tomorrow and we’ll do our best to improve and score some points.”
