TOP FIVE QUALIFYING RESULT FOR DIGGIA AT BARCELONA

#CatalanGP qualifying. It has been a busy Friday for Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 who wraps up qualifying with a 5th and a 16th, courtesy of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Nicolò Bulega, respectively.

There was a lot of work to be done especially on the #21 side as the Italian suffered a highside this morning at turn four, which caused some minor damage to his right ankle and cost him – just like yesterday – plenty of track-time. A fifth place after lapping in 1’43.566secs is surely a good sign, especially as the Rome-born had to make his way through Q1.

Nicolò Bulega also passed the Q1 test with a 1’43.8secs time, but in the final session he was unable to perform at his best with new tyres. His 16th place is a bittersweet result, with the Italian forced to use painkillers tomorrow due to the persistent shoulder issue from his crash at Mugello.

5th – FABIO DI GIANNANTONIO #21 (1’43.566)

“It’s been a day of ups and downs. We had a bad start this morning as I had a big crash at turn four and my right ankle is not 100%. We did well in qualifying as we set a great time in Q1 with used tyres and managed to make another step forward in Q2 – a bit of an unexpected one if I’m honest. We’re still trying to find something extra pace-wise, but we’ve been working well.”

16th – NICOLÒ BULEGA #11 (1’44.158)

“The shoulder still troubles me and surely I will have to use painkillers ahead of the race. I did a good Q1 with a 43.8 lap-time. We have been struggling since the start of the weekend as we also did during private testing, so overall we’re quite happy. Too bad for Q2 where I lost quite a bit of feeling with the tyres and the little amount of grip at this track it made things a lot worse.”
