A SUNDAY TO FORGET FOR GRESINI RACING MOTO2

RACE – #AustrianGP Race one was a very disappointing one for the standard bearers of team Gresini Racing Moto2, as neither rider was able to make it to the checkered flag. Filip Salač had a challenging start to the race from 14th on the grid and dropped all the way down to 23rd. That is where his comeback attempt began: by lap 23 he had already recovered six places before crashing out at turn nine and leaving any hope of another top ten finish.

Alessandro Zaccone’s race was even shorter: after feeling good during the opening lap, he fell off his Kalex machine after a coming together with another rider. He was immediately transferred to the medical center and luckily enough, no fracture was found. The next round on the calendar will take place in a fortnight’s time at Misano, where both rider will have a chance to make amends for today’s subpar performance.

DNF – FILIP SALAČ #12

“I’m very disappointed with how this weekend ended. We were always close to the front, even in this morning’s warmup, but then in the race we had a small shifting issue which we will analyze later today. I’m really, really sorry because we did an excellent job and it was shaping up to be our best weekend of the season so far, but that’s part of the game. We will bounce back in Misano, which is the team’s home race: we will give our best as usual, in order to be back near the front of the field.”

DNF ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61

“I had a coming together with another rider at the chicane while trying to overtake him and ended up flying in the air: I hit my back and foot hard but fortunately it’s nothing series. I’m really sorry about it because we could have aimed at scoring a few points. I would like to apologize to the team for how the weekend ended. Next up is Misano and I’m sure we can do really well!”
