DOMINATING MAIDEN MOTO3 WIN AT BRNO FOR DI GIANNANTONIO
It took three seasons, 47 races – with ten podiums – and finally Fabio Di Giannantonio has taken his long-awaited, extremely important maiden Moto3 World Championship race win. The Italian rider did it at the iconic Automotodrom Brno, in a race that required an extra effort given the surprising speed of the KTM bikes on the straight.
‘Diggia’ managed to keep his composure and focus while he was on the chase, before taking the lead in the crucial moments of the race and fending off the attacks coming from local hero Kornfeil and Canet, who joined him on the podium.
The championship standings see Fabio now in third place with 116 points, 17 less than new leader Bezzecchi – who was sixth at the line today. Jorge Martin ended up losing 10 points: the Spaniard, who was forced to sit out the encounter, now sits in second only three points away from the top.
Di Giannantonio’s win allows Team Del Conca Gresini Moto3 to stay on top of the team standings, with a 36-point advantage on second place.

“We’ve been working for this for a long, long time. I am improving and growing up as a rider and we needed to show it on the track – well, we did it. We started the race with the idea to stay at the front but the KTM bikes were very quick, so I had to rethink my strategy. I believed in my chances like never before and we did it. Jorge’s absence is surely a shame, I hope he’ll be back on the bike soon. I can say – even if it doesn’t sound like a nice to say – that I made the most of the opportunity to get back into the title fight. We’re all very close now, so we need to keep our heads down.”
