SEVENTH PLACE FOR FERRARI IN LE MANS QUALIFYING
Qualifying – #FrenchGP The sun shone over Le Mans in the first day of free practice for MotoE, which as per this year’s format is quite a busy one: after FP1, FP2 and qualifying, team FELO Gresini Racing MotoE was left with a bittersweet taste in their mouth as both riders improved but were not unable to capitalise in the grid-deciding session.
Matteo Ferrari had a good feeling with the bike and was second quickest in the combined times of today’s free practice, which meant he entered qualifying directly from the second session. The result, however, did not match the expectations. The rider #11 will start the races from seventh place and will need to put together a good comeback.
MotoE rookie Alessio Finello made the most of the two free practice session to learn everything there is to learn about the track while trying to get up to speed – as he improved his performance lap after lap. The rider #72 will line up in 17th place on the grid with the goal to make another step forward in race one tomorrow.
7th – MATTEO FERRARI #11 (1’44.064)
“I’m a bit sorry with how qualifying went but I was expecting a bit more. The important thing is to understand where we did wrong. I could not make the 3-4 tenths step I thought I would do as I was losing ground in sectors two and four. We’re working on it, we understood what the problem was, and we will make modifications ahead of the race. The goal is still to win, even from seventh place on the grid: we can do it.”
18th – ALESSIO FINELLO #72 (1’45.974)
“I’m not happy with this 18th place, even though from one side I cannot even be that much disappointment: the goal for today was to lap in the 1’45s and I did it. I’m improving and I’m motivated ahead of tomorrow’s race, which is another opportunity to keep improving. We’re heading in the right direction with the team and we’re getting closer to the group ahead of us. We’ll need to make another step forward tomorrow during the race.”
