FRONT ROW FOR FERRARI IN AUSTRIAN QUALIFYING, WEEKEND OVER FOR INJURED FINELLO

Qualifying – #AustrianGP The start to the Austrian GP was not the most positive one for team FELO Gresini Racing MotoE, with Alessio Finello out of action after a crash at turn three during FP1. The Italian rider suffered a right-foot fracture, and he is currently undergoing surgery: more updates will follow, with the hope of a quick recovery and to see him back on track for the final round of MotoE at Misano.

Matteo Ferrari, on the other hand, had an encouraging opening day after he too had a crash during Free Practice 1. Following the tumble, the first-ever MotoE World Cup champion managed to turn things around and secure the third spot on the grid after qualifying. The young and experienced Italian rider will line up on the front row in both races – taking place tomorrow and on Sunday. This is surely a good starting point for his chase to the top of the standings.

Race one will get underway tomorrow at 16:25 local time. Stay tuned!

3rd – MATTEO FERRARI #11 (1’41.569)

“I’m really happy with these qualifying: we will be once again on the front row and the strategy we came up with was perfect! I really like the new chicane as it created a new passing opportunity. This is also a better layout for MotoE as last year it was hard to brake at turn three after such a long straight. Regarding the feeling with the bike, I can say I felt comfortable both in the dry and in the wet. I crashed in the first session, but the track conditions were very challenging. We only have to thing about staying near the front and have fun no matter how the weather will be (even though I hope it’ll be dry): it’ll be a difficult race because we’re all really fast, but the goal is to make up some ground to the top.”
