FERRARI CONQUERS MISANO IN RACE TWO AND CLINCHES THIRD PLACE IN FINAL STANDINGS
Race2 – #SanMarinoGP The 2022 MotoE World Cup drew to a close today in the best way possible: Matteo Ferrari stepped atop the podium and brought a little of Fausto with him, as he honoured him with his legendary colours. The emotions were indescribable in what was a cleverly-calculated race until the last lap, when the Rimini-born rider took the lead with an incredible overtake and becomes once again king of Misano, with a total of eight podiums out of nine races partaken at this track in the electric category – six of which were wins. The last one happened today on a special occasion: the season finale and the last race of the Energica Era. This was a key result for the final standings, which allowed Ferrari to clinch third place overall.
Alessio Finello wrapped up his rookie MotoE year with yet another race of improvements – lap-time, feeling and race-pace wise – as he crossed the finish line in seventeenth place. Despite the pain his his foot, he was still able to complete the encounter aboard his bike #72. He finishes his debut MotoE season in twentieth place with 9 points.
🥇 – MATTEO FERRARI #11
“It was a really good race but at the same time a difficult one, probably the toughest of my career. I was really far away from the leader, who was also my opponent for third place. This means that I had to push at the limit until the chequered flag. I didn’t know if I would have been able to do it, but when I found myself behind Dominque something happen within me; I started to believe in it and I really did make it. We finished third overall once again and that’s something unique, but today’s win was like closing a loop.”
17th – ALESSIO FINELLO #72
“I’m very happy with this race, more than yesterday: I improved a lot on my best lap and also race-pace wise. The front guys were really fast, but I also have to take into account my fitness condition. After the crash in Austria I promised myself I would have raced this weekend and we did it – thanks to our joint effort. The team really helped me a lot, kept my spirits high and I’m very happy with the season I spent with them. I’m a little disappointed with my results, but still happy that we had been growing consistently from Austria onwards. I would like to thank everyone who came here to watch me race at the last round of the year: my family, sponsors and supporters who gave me an extra push to ride through the pain.”
