NO MIRACLE FOR FERRARI WITH FOURTH PLACE AT MISANO
#SanMarinoGP race one. Matteo Ferrari matched today his so-far best result of the season by finishing race one at Misano in fourth place (he had done the same in Assen at the end of June). The expectations are obviously higher at this track for the rider of team Indonesian E-Racing Gresini MotoE, who had one four races out of five prior to today.
The race was decided at the start, with many collisions and with Ferrari forced to the back of the pack in order to avoid major drama. His pace was in all ways similar to the frontrunners, but there was no time to return to podium contention. This result marked the end of the – little – title hopes he had, with one race still to be contested.
It was a positive race for Andrea Mantovani who is once again in the points while on constant improvement at his home track. Both riders will have a chance to wrap up 2021 in style: Ferrari will target the podium and, why not, the top-three in the final standings; for Mantovani, the top ten is surely within reach.
4th – MATTEO FERRARI #11
“It was a good race. Our pace improved, but after three corners my race was already compromised. There were a few too many collisions and those cost me a lot of group. There was a coming together at turn one, then I had to go wide to avoid Zaccone… Maybe I could have bridged the gap with the frontrunners, but Pons’s overtaking manoeuvres slowed me down. We deserved the podium but we will try again tomorrow: our title hopes ended today, but we still aim at the top three.”
11th – ANDREA MANTOVANI #9
“I’m very happy with my race performance. We were one and a half seconds faster than qualifying and maybe we could have finished two or three places higher. I surely had a better pace, but it’s hard to overtake under braking with this bike so I chose to bring home some valuable points.”
