FERRARI STEPS DOWN TO THIRD PLACE IN BITTERSWEET RACE ONE AT MISANO
The undefeated streak of Matteo Ferrari at Misano came to an end today, in the opening race of the #EmiliaRomagnaGP, which despite a podium finish cost him some more points in the standings to series leader and race winner Aegerter. The #11 led the race for almost its entirety, but the last lap changed the momentum for the Italian: first the successful overtaking manoeuvre and then the riding on the green strip at the exit of the last turn placed the reigning world cup champion on the third step of the podium. With three individual races still to be contested, the standard bearer of Team Trentino Gresini MotoE is third in the standings, 21 points behind the leader.
Good performance also for Alessandro Zaccone who was starting from 16th place on the grid: after a couple of corners, he literally had to stop his bike to avoid running over Tulovic who crashed in front of him. The Italian rider put together a good comeback and finished tenth. Ferrari and Zaccone will start from the first and fourth row, respectively, for the last Italian encounter of the season (scheduled at 10:05 GMT +2).
3rd – MATTEO FERRARI #11
“I spent the whole race at the front and had a great pace… Unfortunately I lost one position in the last lap and ended up just wide at the exit of the last turn… I admit it’s a bit of a disappointing third place for the championship battle, but we will start from the front row again tomorrow and there are still three races until the end of the season. We will need to take every chance we get.”
10th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61
“The only positive note of the day is that tomorrow we’ll be heading row four tomorrow. Today we were on the back of the grid, but at turn two Tulovic was thrown off his bike and I literally had to stop to avoid both him and his bike. From the last position I was able to recover also due to the many crashes, but tomorrow we will try to have a very different race.”
