ONE POINT FOR SALAČ AFTER COMEBACK, CHALLENGING RACE FOR ZACCONE
RACE – #FrenchGP It has been a while since the last time there was a sunny race day at Le Mans, but it did happen today for the Moto2 race. Both riders of team Gresini Racing Moto2 were on the podium last year albeit in different classes – Salač was second in the Moto3 race, Zaccone third in the MotoE one.
From 23rd place on the grid, the rider #12 had a hard time at the start of the race also due to an electric issue to his bike, and crossed the line last at the end of the opening lap. But he stayed focused, and that is when his comeback began: from 28th to 15th at the checkered flag and despite a long lap penalty halfway through the race. He now leaves Le Mans with one more point on his tally.
Alessandro Zaccone chose to return to the same set-up he used on Saturday, but unfortunately the feeling was not there. The rider #61 struggled to stay in touch with the group ahead and finished the encounter in eighteenth position.
15th – FILIP SALAČ #12
“It was a disastrous start to the race: we broke the engine sensor and during the race I was lacking power. After a few laps the bike was strong again and I tried to improve – I even lapped with a similar pace to the guys at the front.Too bad for the beginning, I also had a moment during lap four which gave me nose bleeding and I struggled to breathe for the whole race. I’m still happy with the experience gathered today.”
18th – ALESSANDRO ZACCONE #61
“It was a disastrous race. I couldn’t find a good feeling with the bike and that make things difficult. I’m sorry about it because we started the weekend on the right foot; the feeling was there in FP1 but then I couldn’t improve, and I was expecting more from the race. It’s a shame, but we’ll try again at Mugello.
