UNFORTUNATE RACE ONE IN AUSTRIA AS FERRARI CRASHES AT TURN ONE

Race1 – #AustrianGP It was a Saturday to forget for team FELO Gresini Racing MotoE as Matteo Ferrari crashed out of turn one during the opening lap of race one at the Red Bull Ring – with his dreams of gold shattering in a matter of seconds. The rider #11 started the race from the front row (third place) with the clear goal of making up ground to the top of the classification: his hopes did not last much, but despite the incident he did not give up. He was able to re-join the encounter aboard his Energica machine and still managed to finish the race in 14th place – a result that gave him two points and helped him maintain the third place in the world cup standings.

Alessio Finello was also back at the track – albeit out of action – to support his teammate. Yesterday’s surgery to the fractured foot was a successful one, and the Turin-born rider will do his utmost to be fit enough for the final round of the season at Misano – hoping to jump back aboard his Energica machine #72.

Matteo will have another chance to shine tomorrow: the electric bikes will be back on track for race two from 15:30 local time (GMT +2).

14th – MATTEO FERRARI #11

“I’m really disappointed for the race, it was an unfortunate one. We didn’t fully understand the reason behind the crash: I wasn’t leaning as much as usual and my speed was slower; maybe cold tyres and a bit of bad luck did not help. I’m still happy with the two points I was able to score and I’m still third in the standings – which was not something to be given for granted today. I was able to be quick despite the bent handlebar and the fact that I was missing a foot peg due to the crash. We have to fully focus on tomorrow, though, so we can do our best to secure at least the second place in the final standings.”

ALESSIO FINELLO #72

“I’m really disappointing for having to sit out this weekend. It was my first time in Austria and I was lapping fast: the feeling was good ahead of the weekend and despite the rain. Crashing, however, is part of the game. Surgery went better than expected and we only have to focus on the rehabilitation process: it will be very difficult to be fit for Misano but I’ll give my best, I’m very determined. Even if we’ll be a bit battered and bruised, we’ll be back than ever before! I would like to thank the team, who are always by my side and everyone at home – like Nadia – who gave me all the support despite the distance. I would also like to thank all the hospital staff for everything and for making me feel at home.”
