TEAM KÖMMERLING GRESINI SCORE POINTS IN THE AUSTRIAN GP

Two very different races wrapped up Gabriel Rodrigo e Jeremy Alcoba’s #AustrianGP weekend with both riders finishing anyway within the top 15 in 11th and 14th,respectively. The more positive piece of news comes again from the rookie #52 who struggled for the majority of the weekend on a track which he has yet to fully get to grips to, but then able to well perform in the race. Alcoba put together a good comeback from 18th on the grid and he did well in staying with the “very stretched” leading group for the majority of the GP.

Very different expectations and a disappointing result for Gabriel Rodrigo who desoite starting from the third row and with an interesting race pace on his side he was unable to make a difference and went all the way down to 19th at some point, before making up some positions and finishing just outside the top ten. Five points with a bitter taste for the Argentine who is now quite far from the top of the standings.

There will be another chance in less than five days and again at the Austrian venue, this time for the Grand Prix of Styria.

11th – GABRIEL RODRIGO #2

“I wasn’t expecting such a hard fought race with such a big group. Unfortunately the bike on the straight wasn’t as competitive as I had hoped and I was losing every battle. I was trying to make up for it under braking but it wasn’t possible. I’m very disappointed because once again I had the pace for the majority of the weekend and then in the race something happened which we’ll have to analyse, but it’s clear we have a lot of work to do.”

14th – JEREMY ALCOBA #52

“Honestly I wasn’t expecting to be racing with the front group and my race pace was consistently in the low 1’37s. Both the team and myself are happy as we knew we would have suffered so the result has to be looked at from this side. We had the speed to race at the front but our 18th place on the grid didn’t help. I found myself surrounded by KTMs to overtake and mid-turn they were slowing me down a lot while I was pushing for a comeback. The work done during the weekend and the race were really positive and it’s also encouraging the fact that I didn’t get penalised during the race on such a difficult track. Now we look forward to the next race even though I don’t think I will get to like this track any better any time soon.”
